NCW ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2017

This year conference was enlivened by the presence of a large group of our NCW Young Women. They made lively and important contributions to the debates and informed us of the work they are undertaking in their local groups. They were also active tweeters.

– A number of resolutions were passed and ratified, urging HMG to:

– Continue to make peace a priority by working towards a UN ban on nuclear weapons. Submitted by the Methodist Women in Britain

– Stimulate a change in social attitudes and educate the public in understanding the older person by encouraging awareness of ageing. Submitted by Leicester NCW Branch

– Take steps to ensure that:
• The number of women being given a prison sentence is reduced
• The quality and quantity of alternatives to a prison sentence, for women and especially for women with dependent children, are increased
• The support available to women in prison, to maintain family links and engage in effective rehabilitation, is improved. Submitted by Darlington & District NCW Branch

– Give a category of FGM Type 4 to those other forms of FGM abuse which are not clearly observable and recordable in the way that Types 1, 2 and 3 FGM are. Submitted by NCW Health Committee

– Recommitment of NCWGB’S Aim to Achieve a ‘World where it is no disadvantage to be born a girl’ Submitted by NCW International Affairs Committee

– CONSERVING, GUARDING AND EDUCATING ABOUT ANTIBIOTICS (2016) – Reaffirmed
