‘Novice’ driver status, 1972

Submitted by: Medway Branch

The National Council of Women of Great Britain in Conference assembled, requests the Government in the interest of road safety, to require persons who have just passed their MOT Driving Test to display for an appropriate period (say 1 year) a distinguishing letter on the front and rear of their vehicles (such as “N” for “Novice”) to denote their inexperience. This would enable other drivers to give them extra consideration in hazardous conditions, which could avert accidents.

Reaffirmed 1987, 1990 and 1994
