Proposed amendments of legislation on amusement machines, 1987

Submitted by: The Amusement Arcade Action Group

The National Council of Women in Conference assembled, concerned at the increased number of amusement arcades and centres with increasingly sophisticated machines, and Local Authorities’ lack of effective control over their proliferation and operation, together with the increase in child gambling addiction, urges the Home Secretary to: (a) amend the 1968 Gaming Act, so as to restrict access to amusement arcades or centres to persons over the age of 16 years only; (b) to give Local Authorities greater control over the proliferation and operation of amusement arcades and centres in their area; (c) to extend the 1968 Gaming Act to all forms of amusement machines including video games and the new “Trivial Pursuits”.
