The National Council of Women in Conference assembled, welcomes Her Majesty’s Government’s ratification of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer in May 1987 and the signing of the Protocol to the Vienna Convention in Montreal on 16th September 1987, but believes that there should be much more rapid progress towards the elimination of emissions of dangerous man-made chemicals, including CFC’s and Halons. The National Council of Women urges Her Majesty’s Government to call for the amendment of the Protocol’s timetable and for increased research into environmentally safe alternatives.
