Welfare of gypsies, 1967

Submitted by: Sevenoaks Branch

The National Council of Women in Conference assembled, believing the welfare of gypsies to be a national problem and a national responsibility, urges Her Majesty’s Government to make it mandatory for the appropriate Local Authorities to implement the recommendations of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government Circular No 26/66 of the 14th June 1966, in that they should provide the necessary facilities for gypsies and other traveling people to settle in authorized and supervised encampments thereby improving their living conditions and enabling their children to receive regular schooling.
