Regulation of labelling of meat products, 2002

Submitted by: Gerrards Cross & the Chalfonts Branch

The National Council of Women, aware of the increased importation of food from worldwide sources, urges Her Majesty’s Government to press the appropriate regulatory bodies to require that: (a) the country of origin of any meat or meat-sourced ingredients in all products for human consumption should be stated specifically because of the wide variations in food hygiene regulations and animal welfare outside the UK; (b) the description “˜produced in the UK’ be confined to meat products containing meat from animals born, reared and slaughtered here.
