The National Council of Women in Conference assembled, concerned bout the BBC”˜s re-structuring plans as they affect the BBC World Service, calls upon HM Government: (a) to protect the operating budget of the BBC World Service, allowing the current level of programming and language services to be maintained; (b) to ensure that the budget allocation for the World Service from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is ring-fenced, so that it does not share in any reductions caused by Foreign Office cuts; (c) to ensure that this economically efficient Service retains its autonomy and is protected as a national and global asset.
