The National Council of Women in Conference assembled, expressed its profound concern at the provisional recommendation of the Criminal Law Revision Committee (Working Paper Offences Against the Person, Para 10) for the creation of an offence “mercy killing”. Believing that this erosion of the Law against taking life would not only create intolerable pressures on the sufferer and his relatives, but also constitute a danger to human rights, the Council calls on Her Majesty’s Government to reject this proposal.
