The National Council of Women in Conference assembled, welcomes the Bullock Report “A Language for Life” and the emphasis it places on the need to improve standards of reading in schools. The Council urges the Secretary of State for Education and Science to implement immediately those recommendations asking for positive steps to be taken to develop the language ability of children in pre-school and nursery and infant years and for every school to devise a systematic policy for the development of reading competence of pupils of all ages and ability levels.
