Elsie has been a stalwart of NCWGB. She joined as a member in the 80s but stepped back when she returned to full time employment. She then rejoined in 2002 having retired.

Over the years Elsie has held a number of appointments including Darlington Branch Chair, Regional Chair and member of the Media and Arts Committee.

Elsie took up her first tenure as National President from 2012 – 2014.
She then kindly agreed to another term from 2019 – 2023.

We asked Elsie some questions about her time with NCWGB.

Elsie what inspired you to join NCW?
“In the 1980s meeting the NCW speakers and women who were making a difference in the world inspired me to go back to full time work and on retirement I met some of the members again who re-ignited my interest, warmly welcomed me and together we have kept making a difference.”

What do you consider the greatest achievements during your presidency?
“I think keeping the organisation going through the pandemic years, helping to continue its work with the help of IT, that’s been a big thing.

I’m also proud to have introduced steering groups such as International, Social Media, and Associates for the members led by the Management Committee.”

What else have you enjoyed about your time with NCWGB?
“I thank NCWGB for the opportunities I have had to represent the organisation in many countries such as South Korea, Malta and Holland to mention just a few. This was under the umbrella of the International Council of Women of which we are a member together with 60 other Countries.”

That’s amazing. Is there anything you’d like to say to the incoming president?
“I wish Jilly all the best as she takes over the role of President. She has worked closely with me during the Pandemic years and led the re-branding of the organisation. I think we are preparing an exciting time to continue our work to make a difference for all.”

A huge heartfelt thank you to Elsie for your many years supporting NCWGB and for your excellent work as National President.
