National Council of Women members Professor Anica Zeyen, Sara Rashid (leading our deafness project) and President Ann Davison represented NCWGB in the House of Lords on Monday (20th October).
The event, led by Centenary Action, covered Disabled Women in Politics: Breaking Down Barriers to Representation and heard from women with a range of disabilities including hidden ones. Many described alarming bullying, including online.
Anica spoke for NCW and described how the first step was accessibility into the debating room in the first place before disabled women could consider standing for election.
Ann discussed with Liz Speight of Centenary Action the need to follow up with further work on Internet harms, including online bullying of disabled women.
Jo Kinsey, President of Business and Professional Women UK agreed with Ann on further cooperation between the two sister organisations.
