National Council of Women’s AGM, last Saturday, unanimously passed a resolution calling for an end to trafficking of women. It recognised trafficking and exploitation of women and girls as forms of violence against women and girls and sought more action against perpetrators.

It recognises the need to educate and train Public Officers on the dangers of victim blaming. To build a holistic programme to rehabilitate women after drug use and help them sustain suitable paid employment.

And the need to tackle demand for sexual exploitation and make it socially unacceptable.
Tech companies should shut down all the designated websites used in the sale of women for sexual exploitation.

Staff in the border agency, the transport (air, ferry and truck) industries, banking, and the hospitality sector, especially hotels, need to be trained to recognise trafficking of women into sexual exploitation.

The resolution was proposed by NCW member Virginia Hitch and seconded by Susan McKellar from NCW Associate Scottish Women’s Convention.
