National Council of Women’s Internet harms study group met for the first time last week to assemble evidence and press for more protection. It was agreed to approach the toxic online environment as a public health, safeguarding, legal and consumer issue. As adults, we all have a responsibility to protect children but their healthy development is being undermined by screen time and underregulation of the internet.
Women leaders are being bullied and abused online suppressing their involvement in the public space. And misogyny is being allowed to multiply in social media.
Senior experts from NCW were inspirational in their approach. The combination of medical, academic, business, safeguarding, political, legal and consumer backgrounds was very effective.
