The National Council of Women in conference assembled, conscious of growing public concern about the effects of vehicle exhaust pollutants on health, calls upon HM Government to safeguard air quality by taking urgent action: (a) to reduce the number of motor vehicles entering large towns and cities; (b) to encourage research and development into less polluting/zero -emission vehicles; and (c) to provide for the phased introduction of vehicle zero-emission areas (i.e. specifically designated zones limiting access by vehicles producing exhaust emissions).
