The National Council of Women in Conference assembled, expressing abhorrence at the increasing prevalence in the media of behaviour which has been popularly termed “chequebook journalism”, together with the consequent invasion of privacy and harassment of relatives of those involved in notorious cases, calls upon Her Majesty’s Government to introduce legislation through the appropriate channels designed to curb this growing anti-social practice.
