The National Council of Women in Conference assembled views with apprehension the increase in the taking of both addictive and non-addictive drugs in this country and notes with concern the consequent disastrous physical and psychological effects. The Council particularly deplores the propaganda aimed at the removal of Cannabis from the list of dangerous drugs. The Council therefore urges Her Majesty’s Government to:”“ a. intensify its efforts to educate public opinion on the dangers of drug taking; b. maintain and strengthen, where necessary, existing legislation for the control of addictive and non-addictive drugs; and c. to accelerate its programme for the establishment and staffing of more treatment centres for those who have become addicted.
