Effects of present funding methods on music in education, 1995

Submitted by: Arts Committee

The National Council of Women in Conference assembled: (a) expresses its concern at the reduction of professionally taught musical education in schools, as a result of which musical education is largely restricted to private instrumental tuition, with limited opportunities for music-making in groups; (b) believes that active musical experience, including instrumental tuition and group music-making, should be provided within the formal education system for all children; and (c) calls upon HM Government to ensure some musical education for all school children.
