Export of live animals for slaughter, 1965

Submitted by: Welfare of Animals Sectional Committee

The National Council of Women of GB in Conference assembled, expresses its concern at the high level of exports of live cattle, sheep and pigs for slaughter abroad, and in view of the impossibility of enforcing any undertaking which may be given by foreign countries regarding watering, feeding, resting, transporting and slaughtering, urges Her Majesty’s Government to prohibit this traffic and to ensure that all animals intended for food are slaughtered in the United Kingdom and exported as carcass meat.  Reaffirmed 1981 and 1991.  Affiliated Societies dissociated from this Reaffirmation of Policy:– Institute of Home Economics
