Illegitimacy and the law, 1980

Submitted by: The Committee of Management

The National Council of Women in Conference assembled, while appreciating the Law Commission’s concern to remove any legal disadvantage to children born out of wedlock, urges Her Majesty’s Government: a. not to take any steps which would weaken the institution of marriage on which the stability of our society rests; and b. to take note of our opposition to any proposal which would grant automatic parental rights to all classes of fathers of children born out of wedlock.

Reaffirmed 1983
