In light of the Chernobyl disaster, the National Council of Women in Conference assembled, urges Her Majesty’s Government:(a) to create a single National Authority to co-ordinate and report on information from the continuous monitoring of radioactivity in the air, food , water, rain and the environment; (b) in order to prevent unnecessary panic urgently to inform the public what safety measures exist, how warning will be given in the event of a nuclear emergency and what steps everyone should take when a warning will be given in the event of a nuclear emergency and what steps everyone should take when a warning is given; (c) to work through existing International Organizations for more co-operation and with “hot line” communications for the speedy exchange of information worldwide in order to minimize the immediate and long -term effects of radiation.
