Pollution by industrial effluent of rivers and estuaries, 1973

Submitted by: West Midland Region

The National Council of Women in Conference assembled, concerned at high concentrations of heavy metals, such as cadmium, zinc and lead, found in shell-fish in all estuarine waters, urges Her Majesty’s Government to ensure that existing legislation is fully enforced and where necessary to introduce further legislation to control the level of noxious elements in effluent passed by factories directly into rivers and estuaries.  Held in abeyance as from the Annual General Meeting in 1988
