The National Council of Women in Conference assembled: (i) aware that there are a number of domestic staff who are brought into the United Kingdom by foreign nationals or by returning ex-patriates; (ii) concerned that these employees are tied to their employers and that should they attempt to leave, however bad their conditions, they face deportation; (iii) calls upon HM Government to: (a) take effective steps to protect these domestic staff by admitting them only with work-permits as workers in their own right; and (b) regularise the position of those domestic workers who have left employment since the concession was granted in 1980.
