Re-organisation of secondary education, 1965

Submitted by: Carlisle and District Branch

The National Council of Women of Great Britain in Conference assembled, while appreciating fully the good work accomplished by comprehensive schools in some areas, views with increasing alarm the hasty policy, pursued by some local education authorities whereby many grammar schools of ancient tradition and proved worth are threatened with extinction, and asks the Secretary of State for Education and Science and the Secretary of State for Scotland to advise against taking decisions of this kind until there has been enough time in which to assess adequately some of the non-selective secondary experiments now in operation.
