NCW urges HM Government to take steps to ensure that:

• The number of women being given a prison sentence is reduced
• The quality and quantity of alternatives to a prison sentence, for women and especially for women with dependent children, are increased
• The support available to women in prison, to maintain family links and engage in effective rehabilitation, is improved
