Registration of domiciliary care agencies, 1994

Submitted by: Tyne Coast Branch

The National Council of Women in conference assembled concerned at the growth since 1 April 1993 in the number of private agencies providing vulnerable people with intimate care coupled with the wish of the Department of Trade and Industry to shield small businesses from over-regulation by virtue of the provisions of the Deregulation Act 1994, and believing that the voluntary codes of practice set up in some areas for the inspection of such services should be extended and made mandatory, calls upon HM Government to require Private Domiciliary Services to be registered with Local Authorities in the same way as Residential and Nursing Homes.
