The National Council of Women in Conference assembled views with concern the cuts being made by some District Health Authorities in the Immunisation programme in schools, especially the cuts to the rubella and BCG programmes, believes that (i) these cuts will have serious long-term repercussions on the health of the children affected, (ii) with the cuts in the health education service in schools, children will be unaware of the serious nature of the diseases from which they can be protected by immunization; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Health to ensure that (a) young people are informed of the dangers of failing to seek the protection of immunisation, (b) a full immunisation programme continues to be carried out in schools.
