Sentencing young offenders for criminal offences, 1982

The National Council of Women in Conference assembled, concerned by the rising crime rate, the increasing number of young offenders, and the overcrowding in custodial establishments, and noting the new proposals for the treatment of young offenders contained in the Criminal Justice Bill 1981, urges the Home Secretary that their implementation should include positive support for credible community-based alternatives to custody along the lines operating in the Medway Centre’s Probation Control Unit and Close Support Unit.
