The National Council of Women in Conference assembled, concerned by the report of the Royal College of Physicians Smoking and Health Now (1971), which estimates the annual death rate due to smoking at 27,500 for the age group 35-64 years, urges HM Government to take immediate action to ban smoking in shops, theatres, cinemas and concert halls and to encourage facilities for non-smokers in all places of public resort. Reaffirmed 1980 and 1999
