The National Council of Women in Conference assembled views with concern the cuts in student funding resulting in reports of some students being severely in debt, believes in equality of access to education and the right of higher education for all irrespective of financial means, and calls upon the Secretary of State for Education to: a. raise the mandatory student grant to the index-linked equivalent of its value when introduced in 1963; and b. abolish the student loan system.
