The National Council of Women in Conference assembled, conscious of growing international concern amongst medical practitioners and scientists regarding the effect of alcohol on the foetus, urges Her Majesty’s Government: (a) to consider measures to inform the public about the possible harmful effects of alcohol on the unborn child; (b) to support research in the UK into the level of alcohol consumption regarded as ‘safe’ during pregnancy; and (c) to seek the full co-operation of the medical profession in advising pregnant women of the dangers of alcohol consumption.
