Women and the media, 2003

Submitted by: ICWGB Committee

The National Council of Women, recognising the need to involve more women in all stages of decision-making nationally and internationally, aware of the importance of recently agreed recommendations by the UN Commission on the Status of Women regarding the role of the media, urges Her Majesty’s Government and media bodies, including the internationally respected BBC World Service, to work together at home and abroad, to ensure that the role of women and their contribution to society at all levels in this new century are given fuller recognition in the media, together with a greater understanding of the importance of women’s work in decision making, including their role in peace-keeping and international negotiation.
