Sofia Porokhnyak a young woman member from Ukraine received a standing ovation at National Council of Women GB’s joint international conference with the International Council of Women on Tuesday 3rd November when she shared her personal experience of living through the war.
Sophia described how her house had been destroyed and her friend killed. She experienced alarms 20 times a day and each morning her friendship group texted to check all were alive. Electricity was sparse. On a good day they would have 4 hours of electricity.
Sophie described how their youth is being stolen. They should be getting married, having children but they don’t dare. For women, this means their chance to have children may be missed altogether.
