Home 5 What we do 5 Resolutions

At NCW, we know we’re strongest together and that no lasting change is ever made in isolation. That’s why we meet every year to decide which resolutions our campaigns will focus on over the next twelve months.

During resolution discussion, members bring forward their key areas for concern with policies affecting the lives of women. These cover a wide range of issues, from how local housing associations respond to the needs of women, through to championing gender parity in all levels of decision making in Government.

These resolutions are added to our priority areas of work; helping us create relevant campaigns and collaborations to address the issues. You can find information about previous resolutions below and if you would like to raise an issue for consideration, please contact us on info@ncwgb.org.

Together, we can make a positive difference for all.

Current resolutions

Each year NCW members discuss and pass resolutions relating to areas of concern affecting the lives of women. In 2025 members passed five key resolutions, two of which were international, and reaffirmed one other.

International Development and Female Genital Mutilation

Alarmed at the way overseas aid cuts are impacting women and girls, the National Council of Women GB calls upon governments and the international community to ensure that significant international development aid is provided for women and girls. Past NCWGB resolutions emphasise the need for women and girls’ education and protection from female genital mutilation and cutting.

Pressures on Parents of Young Children and the Use of Electronic Devices

NCWGB in conference assembled notes with concern the increasing pressures on parents of young children in managing the use of electronic tablets and other digital devices. While these technologies can offer educational benefits, their overuse can negatively affect children’s wellbeing and development, and place additional strain on parents seeking to set healthy boundaries.

Ending Trafficking of Women Into Sexual Exploitation

NCW in conference assembled calls on the government to:

  • Incorporate prostitution and trafficking of women into the VAWG strategy recognising trafficking and exploitation of women and girls as forms of VAWG, with clear targets to reduce prevalence.
  • Ensure that perpetrators of trafficking are held accountable for their crimes against women via the criminal justice system.

Climate Change (International Council of Women)

Shocked by the accelerating pace of climate change and the alarming trends reported by UNEP, we face a grim reality: greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, global temperatures are breaking records, and vulnerable populations are already bearing the brunt of these changes. On July 22, 2024, the world witnessed a new daily global average temperature record. The UN Secretary- General has issued a stark warning in the lead-up to COP29, cautioning that global heating is poised to surpass the critical 1.5-degree threshold above pre- industrial levels in the near future.

Online Harms (ECICW – European Centre of the International Council of Women)

ECICW calls on national governments, the Council of Europe and the EU to provide speedy and robust protections for us all, but especially children and women, from the many online harms. What is illegal offline should be illegal online.

Reaffirmation on Water Planning for the future 2006

Our resolutions are often ahead of their time and we continue to campaign for the issues that our members feel strongly about. And we often say that NCW is in it for the long haul. Dr Maureen Beauchamp, NCWGB member, has requested that we reaffirm the resolution put forward in 2006, nearly 20 years ago, concerning planning for water resources. We’re all aware how important water is as a core resource and how it has often been badly mismanaged.
