National Council of Young Women (Under 18)

A space for young women and girls to be heard, inspired, and connected

Home 5 NCYW – Under 18 ( Page 2 )

The National Council of Young Women (NCYW) brings together girls and young women who want to learn more about the issues affecting their lives and explore ways to make their voices count. We aim to create opportunities for young women to build confidence, share their perspectives, and connect with others who care about the same topics.

What NCYW Offers

NCYW provides access to inspiring speakers and regular updates on topics particularly relevant to women and girls today, including wellbeing, online safety, representation, and participation in society.

Our network of schools receive monthly information highlighting key issues, opportunities, and activities, helping them stay informed and engaged.

We also help raise the profile of youth-led work by sharing achievements, projects, and initiatives through our website and newsletter, celebrating the contributions young women are making in their schools, communities, and networks.

Check out the Instagram feed from Nottingham Girls High School, one of our long standing collaborating schools at Ncyw.nghs.

We also have a variety of resources, written by our young women members, that will stimulate debate and action.

Student changemakers

Our amazing young NCW members have written a guide to give you the knowledge and inspiration to turn your passion for equality into change-making activities. The Changemaker booklets explain key topics like body positivity, period poverty and FGM, and show you how to set up a NCYW group, start challenging and making a difference.

They are designed to be a springboard for discussion, raising awareness, and engaging in action to improve society.

“I was introduced to NCYW after studying feminism in Politics and co-running my school’s FemSoc. I’ve since attended the NCW’s Annual Conference, which was fascinating, lobbied for children’s rights with Amnesty International and attended the UN’s Commission on the Status of Women.”

A Pathway for the Future

NCYW membership offers a clear pathway into wider opportunities. When members turn 18, they are invited to join our active Network 18–30, where they can take part in consultations, contribute to national and international discussions, attend events, and further develop their leadership and participation skills.

Why Join?

By joining NCYW through your school, young women become part of a supportive community that values their experiences and encourages them to speak up on the issues that matter to them. Whether members want to learn more about current issues, hear from inspiring speakers, or prepare for future opportunities, NCYW provides a welcoming starting point.

Testimonial from former NCYW member now part of 18-30 network:

“I joined NCYW while I was in sixth form, and it marked the beginning of a journey that has shaped my confidence and interests. Through NCYW I have had the opportunity to attend inspiring events, including Celebrating Underrepresented Voices and the APPG event for International Women’s Day in parliament, where I learned more about public discourse and the importance of representation. I am now proud to be part of the MASG steering group, continuing to contribute and learn. NCYW is a truly special community that brings together women of all ages, creating opportunities to learn from different perspectives while building lasting connections through its strong networking community.”
